Hello r/sewing! Is there an old post about buying a new intermediate sewing machine that someone can share? I am having trouble searching with the phone app.
I am looking for a new machine. I have been using a free one that is around ~20 years old, maybe older. It's a good machine – but one thing annoys me, I find the stitch is not straight enough. I also find that when I want to change stitch length or change to a different stitch, I get a lot of grief. The machine doesn't have a walking foot and I find working with layers a bit of a pain. I have used friends sewing machines and find they are smoother and also quieter! They seem sturdy too – as in they don't feel like they are slightly shaking.
I have started quilting and sewing clothing and decided it's time to get a machine that helps me work faster (or slower) easily. That straight stitch is important to me now that I am quilting.
There is a Pfaff dealer close to me that also sells Husqvarna and Viking. I know nothing about these brands. I have an old EZ-7. Not sure about the make?
Things that I'm looking for:
Larger throat space (right now it feels a bit cramped) Walking foot Needle threader (optional) thread cutter (would be nice) A solid straight stitch (so important) Ability to work through layers and thicker fabrics (canvas etc). Not so loud?? Good warranty for parts etc. ability to add on accessories for quilting.
I am giving myself a budget of up to $1000 But if I don't spend that, that is totally ok!
Again, if there is an older post please share. Or if there is something in the side bar, please copy paste it because I have no idea how to find it through my phone app. ??
Thanks!!!
