Help! I'm sewing my sister's wedding dress… Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

My sister is 8 months pregnant. In July (when her baby is 3-4 months old) she is getting married. Five years ago I made my own wedding dress. Now she has asked me to make hers.

I have vastly improved in my sewing abilities since 5 years ago, and so I am really really trying to make her a nice dress that is nursing compatible and is flexible for a post-partum body. I have come up with this idea: http://imgur.com/D6oUciu

My sister is fashion clueless. She hates shopping with a passion and thinks her rowing onesie (think bathing suit from the 1920s like outfit) is appropriate to wear in public. I love her and she is a truly wonderful person but she generally has no clue what to wear. Her fiance is also not fashion aware, however he does have very strong opinions about it (mostly just negative).

She has however had a few specifications about her dress, which is great, such as the red highlights, she wants those. No problem. Yesterday she said she now has an idea about the skirt. She wants it to be asymmetrical and sent me this photo (http://imgur.com/VqU5c9f) as an example. The fact that it’s her fiance’s arm holding the dress makes me think this may be his idea.

I HATE that skirt. With a passion. I think it would look like a disaster with the top part and just generally the thought makes me puke. I loathe it. I will be spending HOURS on this dress, making muslins, fitting it, etc. Add to this, she lives a two hour flight away, I am finishing my PhD and I have a 2.5 year old so I can only work on this when I take time off work to do it on week days, since my daughter is very destructive. Up until now I was super happy to take this time to make her dress. I was excited. If I have to make this ridiculous looking skirt though I will not be happy.

Here is my question: do I suck it up? It’s her wedding, it’s her day, do I just do it? Do I smile and nod during our skype call tonight and tell her it looks lovely? Or do I tell her I think it looks like the dress version of a mullet, like someone forgot to sew on the other half.

THIS is why I usually only make clothes for myself. But this has been her huge wish ever since I made my own dress, it was the very first thing she asked me when she got engaged.

EDIT: forgot the links
