Bottle Cap Pincushions Tutorial Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

[ad_1]

If you need a pincushion, or somewhere to stash the needle(/s) you’re working with, you can make one fairly easily with felt and a plastic bottle cap. This is a good project if you need something NOW, to use up some small scraps, or for someone who both needs the pincushion and wants to work on hand sewing skills. Or as a practical embroidery and/or beading project.

If you need a bigger one, you can also use another type of plastic lid:

Here’s mine. It’s weighted down with a couple of nickels so I can easily remove a needle without it moving around too much. And since it’s for my beading needles, I beaded around the cap. Also, feel free to laugh at my bent, busted beading needles.

I did not make mine with felt, so I had to fold the edges under which added a bit of annoyance. The top can be made in any fabric quite easily, but I’d recommend felt for the bottom and sides so you don’t have to worry about seam allowance and fraying. Rather than coins, you could use washers or magnets as weights – just drop them into the cap before you put in the top cushion. This is a nice, small size – just about an inch and a quarter diameter.

And here was my introduction to these, from Needle n’ Thread
