Adding zipper to hand-knit sweater. Any advice? Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

I’ve knit a cardigan for my husband (this one but I want to add a zipper to it instead of buttons. I’ve done minor sewing (hems, etc.) and I’ve made a few zippered pouches but I’ve never added a zipper to knit wear. Do you have any advice for me? Is there anything I should know before I start?

I’m going to wash the cardigan before I measure it for the zipper. I might also buy a few smaller zippers and practice sewing them onto a few knit swatches. Any other suggestions of things I should do/keep in mind?
