will this method prevent fraying? Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

I just hemmed a shirt recently, I ironed a crease and then stitched a straight stitch seamline of 5/8″. After that I cut away the excess fabric from the seamline. I haven’t washed the shirt yet, right now it looks clean(no noticeable fraying from outside) but will it eventually fray enough to be a problem? What should I do from here on in to resolve any problems with the shirt?
