First off, I didn’t buy it.
My mom, who has been an amateur sew-er since probably the 1960s or even earlier, no longer has a machine and passed her fabric on to me (there’s a larger backstory here, but I won’t go into it). Some of it is quite nice, some of it is…bright pink courderoy. I’ve gotten back in sewing as a sort of thrifty creativity project–after all, I’ve got a machine, I’ve got basic tools, and I’ve got this fabric. Just add time.
I’m not a super excellent sew-er myself. I’d probably call myself an “intermediate beginner”. I’ve followed patterns to made simple clothes, done a bit of patchwork to make a fabric box, some machine embroidery, and precisely one small quilt. So I can’t exactly look at fabric and know what to do with it. I used a bit to make a skirt for a doll, but I don’t think it would be comfortable an actual child (i.e. my daughter). The only other thing I can think of is a jumper (ew) or pants (which I won’t do–I hate the feel of courderoy still and won’t do that to my kid). So ideas, anyone?
