What are some good things to sew for a new baby? Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

Hello everyone! My cousin is getting ready to have a baby and as I asked in the title I’m looking for some things to make for the little boy. I’ve never had kids and I don’t really know what a newborn would need/like versus a baby that’s a few months old. I’ve already planned to make a few burp cloths and maybe some stuffed shapes like balls and cubes but otherwise not really sure what would be good for the baby and/or mom.

My cousin is very stylish and hip so I don’t want to make a decor piece like a crib skirt that could possibly conflict with the room and I don’t feel very confident in clothing since, again, my cousin is quite trendy. So I would prefer to stay away from the the two. Basically my question is what are good toys or things to sew for a newborn?
