Trying to sew patches to a backpack…what size needle/type of thread do I need? Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

Amateur thredditor here asking for a little help. Patches are iron-on, but trying to secure the corners/sides better as the backpack gets a lot of wear. Tried to figure it out myself but felt overwhelmed in the needle/thread section of my local craft shop. Thanks in advance!
