For 30 years my passion has been diets/fitness, and it really burns me up to hear what’s going on today. Now obesity is considered a disease, so people can get government assistance.

Just like other addictions, first it’s a symptom, then it becomes a problem. And people have choices to eat or not to eat, drink or not to drink.

All you have to do is read a book on basic nutrition. You need to put food in it’s proper perspective. Food is really any substance taken into the body to provide energy. It is a material to keep your body strong and regulates bodily processes. That’s All! Food = Calories = Energy. We take in energy, we use the energy. And how many different reasons (excuses) do you give yourself for eating?

We sure put too much emphasis on food in our society. Every time we turn around we are eating; celebrating, depressed, stressed, Thanksgiving, Christmas, weddings, wakes, when angry, tired, sad, July 4, Valentines, birthdays, bored. WHY?

The body knows what it needs and when. The problem is, we don’t listen to our bodies.

If you eat cake (energy), take a walk, play ball with the family, go biking. If you eat steak (energy), go swimming, horseback riding, dig a hole, cut lumber. Workouts don’t have to be boring.

You can get involved in other things, in life. Get your mind off food. Do volunteer work. Take up a hobby; one where you use your hands (keep them occupied), painting, sewing, knitting, gardening.

The Food Industry and Marketers are not helping either. Grocery Shopping is hazardous to your health. Restaurants are hazardous to your health and rip offs. Vending machines are rip offs. Stand on any street corner, turn to your right there’s a grocery store. Turn right again, there’s a restaurant. Turn right again, there’s a vending machine. Food is everywhere you turn!

There is an ad on television for a fast food restaurant. “I’m full!” someone yells proudly. Gimme a break!. The last time I went to a restaurant, I got a salad on a plate that almost 12 inches wide! Waaay too much food!

It’s all about your relationship with food.
