It’s Murphy’s Law: when you are cleaning for guests or for a big party, your vacuum is going to break. It happens all of the time and it’s incredibly frustrating. Vacuums can be pretty expensive, so sometimes going out and buying a new one is not the most affordable option. Vacuum repair stores are a great alternative. You can take your vacuum to one of these shops and get it fixed at a fraction of the cost of a new one. Here is a brief rundown of the three most common types of vacuum repairs.
The brush roll not spinning is quite common. However, this is something you can sometimes fix on your own at home. Simply flip your vacuum upside-down and look at the roller itself. If you see a lot of hair, strings or other debris wrapped around it, take some time to remove that debris. You can even use a pair of scissors to cut the mess out: just be sure you unplug your vacuum before you attempt this. If that doesn’t work, try to look farther into the vacuum to see if any debris is caught in there. Try to cut it out of that part too but without damaging any other part of the vacuum. If that doesn’t work, you might need to bring it to a vacuum repair shop for help.
Another common type of vacuum problem is when you are using your vacuum and it shuts off on its own. Obviously, this could be a result of it becoming unplugged, but if it’s not that, then you should try to hit the reset button on the vacuum because usually this is caused by an overload that has been tripped by the vacuum suction motor. You should also make sure the outlet that the vacuum is plugged into is working properly.
Finally, another common type of vacuum repair is when the vacuum will not suck properly anymore. Usually this is because of a clog in the hose or internal air path. Another common culprit for this is when the vacuum’s bag needs to be changed because it is too full and no more dirt or other debris can fit in there. Fortunately, vacuum bags are usually inexpensive and some vacuums have a container in there that you can dump out and you will not need to worry about a bag. Check your vacuum’s owner’s manual for instructions.
