Preparing your sewing machine for storage is a simple but often overlooked task. By following these tips, you can be sure that your machine is ready to sew when you remove it from storage.

• Clean Your Machine
  Blow off all excess lint from your machine, paying particular attention to the needle bar area and bobbin case area. Use a soft lint brush to clean problem areas. Wipe down the outside of the machine with a mild cleanser, but make sure it is completely dry before storing.
• Oil Your Machine
  Bring your machine to operating temperature by sewing on a scrap piece of fabric. Using your manual, oil your machine at all oiling points with high grade white sewing machine oil containing no paraffin. After oiling, place a scrap piece of fabric under the presser foot.

  If possible store your machine in a temperature controlled environment. Outside storage in a shed or garage is unacceptable. Place your machine where nothing will fall on it or bump into it.
