Sewing machine keeps jamming on my project? Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

Hi, all! So I’m having some issues and I can’t seem to figure out how to make it work (really trying to avoid just starting from scratch because this is the last bit)

My project: I’m creating bedding for my ferret’s cage. I completed everything except ladder covers. I decided the best way to approach this was to put Velcro on the ladders and sew on Velcro on the pattern. I originally started to hand sew it (I have more experience hand sewing than with a machine) but gave up after sewing on two pieces (my hand ended up torn up from forcing the needle through). I broke out a sewing machine I got for Christmas and started practicing with it. I completed a few simple hammocks and bedding and felt comfortable enough to go to the Velcro. The problem though is the machine keeps jamming After only three stitches. So I’m not getting even close to slightly sewing it on. I only have one friend who’s into sewing like me, but she moved to Portland. She helped with some suggestions, but skyping with her has been hard lately (she’s busy). I’m hopping someone here can help. 🙁

Material is felt, adhesive Velcro, regular sewing thread

Machine has a 90/14 needle and a J foot pressure foot
