Sewing machine advice Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

I’m new to sewing and quilting. 98% new to it. I need a machine. My neighbor (who is teaching me to quilt) is urging me to get quite a nice machine. I have a quote on a Bernina 530 (new) for $2,499.00 But should I spend that much on a sewing machine?? Do I need to?? Advice appreciated.
