A toast goes out to all you enlightened guys, the true Renaissance Men (RM) we women have had the privilege to meet and know. We admire and need men like you in our lives.

Here are 30 characteristics that describe the ultimate RM.

1. RM have a strong sense of themselves and are true to their own integrity, no matter what obstacles cross their path.

2. RM understand that being passionate and excelling at their work is a good thing and is done out of love for providing for themselves and their families, but they do not make their work their God.

3. RM like to hear the sincere words from their wife, “You’re a prince.”

4. RM treat their staff, customer service people, and waitresses with respect.

5. RM know when the independent-minded woman he loves says she doesn’t need him to protect her, she’s lying.

6. RM understand that it’s wonderful, and necessary, to take some time for their own hobbies and interests, but not at the expense of their family life.

7. RM value good grooming and know it’s perfectly okay to ask a woman salesclerk in a store, “Do these pants match this shirt?”

8. RM understand that part of being a gentleman means saying please, thank-you, and I appreciate you to all the people who cross their life path, including their staff.

9. RM are able to enjoy and respect women as platonic friends, and they seek their opinions because they realize women view life from a complementary lense that can be helpful to them and enlarge their perspective on life.

10. RM are not afraid to say the words, “I’m sorry,” and they sincerely try to do better next time.

11. RM understand that a Renaissance Woman for a mate is a treasure and they consider her their best friend and confidant.

12. RM understand that the time they spend with their young children will likely determine the quality of time his grown children will spend with him when he is an old man.

13. RM realize, and like, the fact that a woman really can run her own company and be a lady.

14. RM understand (and probably invented) the phrase, “If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!”

15. RM can fix a computer, run a marathon, and make a souffle, but they accept that they likely can’t do all three all in one day.

16. RM know the way to their wife’s heart is to ask, “Would you like help with the dishes tonight, honey?”

17. RM compete with other successful men in a positive way, congratulate them when they succeed, and learn from them in order to make themselves better.

18. RM are secure enough in their own masculinity to wear a pink shirt. (Love that about you, hubby Steve!)

19. RM understand that having his business affairs and estate in order in the event of his death is one of the greatest gifts he can leave his family.

20. RM understand that a man who can run a company, and fix things at home is a wife’s dream come true.

21. RM know that for his wife, love is spelled T-I-M-E well spent with her.

22. RM keep a strong level head during business dealings, even when others might not be doing so.

23. RM realize that losing their hair does not mean they are unattractive.

24. RM are direct and courteously frank because they know being otherwise is a waste of time.

25. RM understand that women need two dozen pair of shoes in many colors and they never say to their wife, “Did you really have to spend money on another pair of shoes?!”

26. RM really believe “behind every successful man is a good woman,” and they seek her out for a mate.

27. RM don’t balk a bit at asking for directions because they know it saves time.

28. RM understand the difference between being confident and arrogant and they choose confident.

29. RM can be counted on to show up when they say they will, and if something comes up to prevent that, they let the other party know.

30. RM understand that God is the real author of their life and the one from whom all blessings and accomplishments flow, and he is thankful for that gift of grace.
