New machine advise Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

I’m looking for some advice on a new machine purchase. My wife has a Brother 1500 which she loves and uses all the time but mentioned the other day that she wished she had something that did more than just straight stitch. I’ve been looking at the brother 1850 and singer 9960. Any advice on which is better? They both seem to get good reviews on Amazon, and are about the same price.
