New costume fabrics at Joann = Good grief! Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

As a costumer/cosplayer, I was thrilled when I heard months ago that there would be a new line of fabrics at Joann with costumes in mind.
Then yesterday I saw them unwrapping it. Ok, mostly spandex and brocade, and wow, some of it sure is pretty, though really not as huge a collection as I expected. Then I looked at the price: It’s all between $20 and $40 a yard. ALL of it! Good god!

If you are new to costuming, please don’t go for this. Are some fabrics worth a high price tag? Sure, if you’re looking at stuff like real silk or the like. But just putting a big name like Yaya Han on regular poly brocade does not make it worth that price. Especially when one aisle over I can buy it for $8 a yard.
