Thanks in advance to anyone who can help point me in the right direction!
I’m looking to make (or even buy) ribbons/scarves, just like those in this music video, although only 5 or 6 feet in length:
Love Is Your Name – Music Video
I’ve picked up some fabric at Joanns that seemed to be okay. It’s polyester and has a very slight stretch to it. My first thought was to cut it in 4 inch wide strips, fold it in half, sew it, and then turn it right side out. I tried a few different ways of cutting it, to get as straight as possible. That wasn’t easy but went well enough or so I thought. Sewing it was equally as challenging, but I managed. However, I need to learn how to use this machine a little better. Turning it inside out was the easiest part so far.
Unfortunately, it made these hideous looking “tube” sort of things. I haven’t yet attempted ironing them as I’m not sure they’ll ever be flat due to poor cutting and sewing. There’s nothing straight about them. Beyond that, they seem way to heavy to be light and flowy in the wind. I would like to hang them in front of a window as a kind of “hippy curtain” if you will.
My real question is can anything like this just be purchased, reasonably priced? I’m more than okay doing so but haven’t yet found anything like it. Or, what is the best way to go about making ribbons like these? Any tips, ideas, pointers, suggestions?
