Making a secure top/zipper stop for a shortened zipper Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

I’ll be shortening a separating zipper. I understand that you have to shorten it from the top by removing the zipper teeth/coils say the top, but when it comes to the top/zipper stop, how would you make one? Would you just do some front and back stitches near the new top end on both sides, or is there a safer/more secure alternative?
