Unfortunately, he was killed in a boarding house conflict in Deptford when he was only twenty-eight and the world was not able to experience the great plays he would otherwise have been destined to write had he lived longer. However, he did leave behind The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus and other great works that remain produced and loved on the contemporary stage.

William Shakespeare was just beginning is career as a writer when Marlowe died. At the time Marlowe was the famous writer and Shakespeare was, as Johnson would later describe, the upstart crow. During his career as a writer Shakespeare would not only reinvent the way human beings were portrayed onstage, he would create some of the most beautiful poetry that would ever be written. He is largely credited with creating the human character onstage. Prior to is writing, characters were still heavily imbued with the archetypes of morality plays. Those characters were closer to personality traits than actual full spectrum human personalities and Shakespeare is credited with being the first to present this. He also established the new structure for drama and revived the stories from classical Greek theatre.
