Jacket Project Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

Hi! I’m looking to make my own bomber jacket similar in style to the NASA one Alpha industries made.

I would like to sew on some patches onto a bomber jacket but the materials they are available in varies. Should i avoid the puffy ones? How feasible is it to sew onto those jackets without possibly worsening it? Should i look into having a seamstress do it to avoid complications?
