In the earlier days it was the women folk of every household who bought the material and sewed the clothes.women were not super skilled at tailoring but did a decent job of covering the body of their kin. Then with time men started taking more interest in the business of stitching and sewing and started becoming commercial tailors. Of course there were women tailors who were just as good, but we are talking about many hundreds of years ago, so women were not allowed to work commercially and draw an income. Fine dressing picked up in demand and more and more wanted to wear quality clothes.
In a sense you can blame the industrial revolution for it all. Industrial revolution brought in tremendous amount of demand on specific commodities and necessity always resulted in the invention of machines.
Barthelemy Thimonnier invented the first sewing machine in 1830. He was a Frenchman and had a small tailoring business to his name. He made it to increase production and save on time and open a garment factory. His machine was extremely basic in nature and not as complex as the factories that we find today. Sadly the competition was far too much for the other tailors who were threatened by his progress and afraid of unemployment. They burnt his factory down in a furry and almost killed him. However these insecurities were baseless as it brought with it many more jobs than anybody had expected it to bring.
There are two versions of the sewing machine today – the domestic ones and the industrial ones. The industrial ones are extremely sophisticated and equipped for greater speed and incorporation of various kinds of designs and styles of stitching. Industrial ones are built to take on the immense load of mass production for the purpose of exporting to other parts of the globe. They are linked with the computer to produce computer operated designs and cuts. Today the garment industry has taking the world by storm and is a whooping multi billion dollar industry. You have numerous fashion houses selling their garments for thousands of dollars world wide and making unfathomable profits on every piece they sell.
There are different kinds of sewing machine today. Some are electrically operated or motorized while some still rely on manual rotation of the wheel. Major companies such as Singer, Brown, and Brother etc manufacture these and their kits.
You have different machines to make different forms of garment and material such as denim, silk, cotton etc. sewing machines are crafted differently as per their requirements to give your garment a sophisticated and well made finish. You have different machines to make coats, jeans, scarves etc.
Sewing machines can be purchased from all leading stores. Sewing machines can be bought over the internet. It is more convenient to buy over the internet because you will get it home delivered and installed. The ones for domestic purposes are very handy and inexpensive.
