Beyond marking, lots and lots of practice, sharp scissors, and an even cutting level, a table or floor, what are good tips for getting more even cutting? Should I make shorter or longer cuts? Use more or less weights, closer or further way?

I feel like cutting effects every aspect of good sewing, so I really want to improve on it.
