Home laminating machines come in a variety of models, shapes and sizes. Which one you need depends on what you plan on using the home laminator for. This article will explain some of the features you should look for when buying a home laminating machine.

  1. Consider what you plan on doing with the laminator. If you are using it for pictures and documents then most models will work for your needs. If you plan on doing much larger pieces like id badges or luggage tags then you will need a stronger machine.
  2. Will you being using the machine everyday or just occasionally? Will more than one person be using it each day? The frequency of use makes a big difference. If you plan on using it occasionally then a less expensive home version will work for you, but don’t expect to use a home laminator if you have many people who need to use it each day.
  3. Consider some of the extra features like anti-jam buttons and methods. Most machines have a release that basically relieves the tension between the rollers and then you pull the document back out. A more expensive feature would be a reverse release mechanism. And the most expensive would be the ability to open the machine up so that you can remove the jammed document.
  4. Safety features should also be considered. For example, some of the more expensive versions have more insulation. The more you use the machine the more heat it will generate. If you use it all day long you need to make sure you have an insulated machine.
  5. Price, of course is a consideration. You can get ones as low as forty dollars and can pay in the thousands of dollars. It really comes down to what features you need.
