Help with a too complicated zipper project! Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

[ad_1]

I want to make a blanket out of an old fur coat. My plan was to make a detachable and washable backing, basically a blanket it an of itself (batting sandwiched between fabric) that would zipper onto the fur.

I’ve looked around and can’t find any zipper tutorials on how to do this. I’m close to giving up and just sewing it all together like a regular blanket but figured I’d see if anyone could help.

The regular easy sew on a zipper, where the fabric is sewn closed then sew on the zipper then rip out the seam, won’t work because the fur would be face down on the machine. That seems like bad news. Would tissue paper or something work, maybe?

I just want to be careful of too much ripping because it’s an old fur. And as much as I’ve rehydrated it, it’s still delicate.

Any ideas? Or will this be a spot clean only type of thing?
