Help: Singer Stylist 7258 or Brother CS6000i or other for compete newb Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

Hi,

I’m just getting into sewing. I want to ultimately alter and make casual clothes and some cool old school cloaks. I don’t plan on working with denim but I’ll probably do some heavier fabrics for the aforementioned cloaks.

I don’t want to spend more than $199 USD for a starting machine and any suggestions would be welcome.

I’m a little afraid of used older machines because I have no idea what I’m doing.
