Help on what to do with a really weird rectangle piece of fabric with sleeves? Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

So I got this weird brown, long sleeved, cropped shawl for Christmas one year and have only worn it a handful of times. It fits weird (long hanging fabric in the front, short and up to the middle of my back in the back) and makes anyone wearing it look like they are locked in a permanent shrug. But since it’s made out of cotton and silk (I don’t own anything made from silk so I want to feel like a rich person and keep it), I would like to salvage it.

It’s so weirdly shaped, I have no idea what to do with or how I should upcycle/transform it. Was thinking about cutting off the sleeves but that would just make it a weird sleeveless vest.

The measurements are 53 inches length, 22 1/2 inches width. The armholes are only separated by 13 inches.

I am not great a sewing (better at hand stitching) but I do have a roommate who has/knows how to use a sewing machine (and I did take my first swing at it a week ago!).

Any ideas?
