Hacking Nettie – thong/not-boyshort variation? Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

Hi all! I’ve got a question. I’m in LOVE with the Closet Case Nettie bodysuit pattern, except for the leg openings – they’re wayyyyy too low for my taste. I would love to pattern-hack it into a thong/cheeky style, but when I tried cutting up a (favorite ?) thong and laying it over the Nettie, lining up at (what I thought was) where I wanted the new leg opening to be (and where the thong did sit), it left me with like 4 inches of crotch fabric (sooooo not-cute).

Why did this happen? How should I align my thong on the Nettie? What do I do??
