Getting into curtains Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

My husband and I just bought our house and I can’t find any curtains I like. I am seriously considering making my own. I’m looking at buying a sewing machine and was wondering if anyone had some suggestions?

I know a little about sewing, having worked on my mother’s machine and hand sewing, but I wasn’t sure if there was something specific I should consider when purchasing my own machine.
