Over break, I’m planning on making a trench coat-style raincoat out of standard issue green canvas Boy Scout camp tent (like this). I want it to be very clear it’s made from a bsa tent, like having the “No Flames in Tents” graphic going down the side and the bsa seal at the top corner of the tent on the left breast. Because of where it is on the tent, I’ll have to replicate the seal myself, and I’d love to have it machine embroidered on. My question is whether embroidering a raincoat is a bad idea, considering it’s putting a bunch of tiny little holes in the fabric. Or should I be fine as long as I give it a good coat of waterproof camp dry (which I’m using to waterproof all of the fabric before I sew the garment together) after it’s embroidered?
Here’s a sketch of what I’m wanting to do, with the graphic down the side and the seal over the left breast.
