Dollhouse furniture adds beauty, personality, and a sense of “home” to your dollhouse. As you begin to shop for dollhouse furniture, keep in mind some of the rooms you can add to your dollhouse, and some of the more basic furniture items that can go in them. Keep in mind that these just scratch the surface-there are as many dollhouse furniture items as there are real furniture items!

Living and Family Rooms

Every dollhouse needs a living room! Basic living room furniture items include sofas, loveseats, armchairs (with or without ottomans), and coffee tables. Other furniture items in your living room include fireplaces, grandfather clocks, rocking chairs, lamp tables, and modern furniture items such as entertainment centers and television sets.

Dining Rooms

The most essential dining room furniture includes a table, chairs or benches, and some type of hutch. Other dining room items include china cabinets and curio cabinets, washstands, cupboards, bookshelves, corner cabinets, and tea carts. Often, dining room sets have matching living room sets to go with them. If there is not enough room in your dollhouse for a dining room, you may just want to add a simple table with two chairs to your kitchen.

Kitchens

Kitchens are another must-have room in your dollhouse. The range of furniture items to add to your dollhouse is huge, but the most basic items include a sink, a stove, a refrigerator or icebox, and some type of cabinets (placed on the floor or hung on the wall). Kitchens can also have extra counters and cabinets, cupboards, islands, tables and chairs, and hutches. Other appliances include microwaves and dishwashers, or old-fashioned metal stoves and wet sinks.

Bathrooms

The most essential furniture items for a bathroom are pretty obvious: each bathroom needs a toilet, a sink, and usually a tub or a shower. Other items include mirrors, medicine cabinets, hampers, towel racks, and bathroom cupboards.

Bedrooms

Bedrooms obviously need a bed, though there are many kinds (single or double, canopy, day beds, etc.). Other basic items include wardrobes, dressers, or armoires; nightstands; and chests. Other options include cheval mirrors, coat trees, desks, settees, and even shoe cabinets.

Children’s Rooms and Nurseries

Along with the types of beds mentioned above, bunk beds are a pretty popular children’s room item. Other items differentiate from standard bedroom items simply through decorations. A few unique furniture items include toy chests and toys such as rocking horses, and, believe it or not, dollhouses. Nurseries typically have cribs, bassinets, and/or cradles, changing tables, high chairs, baby walkers, and potty chairs.

Play Rooms and Rec Rooms

These rooms can be used to place fun furniture you’d love to have but can’t put into other rooms! For example, musical items like pianos, harps, and stereos would be great in a rec room. For a different look, you could add a dart board and a pool table. Televisions and other entertainment items can also go in these rooms.

Libraries and Offices

Basic furniture for these rooms include a desk and chair, a file cabinet, and bookshelves. Other items include globes with stands, chess tables, and display cases.

Other Rooms

If you have the space, you may want to consider a laundry room: you can add a washer and dryer, laundry sink, ironing board, and cleaning supplies like a vacuum. Another popular room is a sewing room: sewing machines, spinning wheels, and quilting tables can be added to them. Other rooms just depend on your interest and imagination: art rooms, animal rooms for pets, and greenhouse or potting rooms are all examples.
