Does the speed at which one sews affects the life of the sewing machine? Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

I have an 20 year old Kenmore sewing machine. It is basically a hand-me-down from my mom who passed away recently. I was letting my roommate use it for the last month for a project she was working on, but I didn’t realize how fast she sews until today. It makes me uncomfortable.

Does the speed at which one sews affects the life of the sewing machine? Do you let other people use your sewing machine? Just wondering if I’m overly sensitive.
