Thanks for considering my question. The responses I got in TwoXChromosomes helped me explain this a little better I think.
I’m looking for the name of a style of fabric or clothing that has mesh or light-colored fabric with long lines of bold color that go in random or asymmetrical patterns. I had a laundry basket like this and I feel certain that I’ve seen vintage dresses, lingerie, corsets, or bathing suits with this pattern.
Here are some examples that are not exactly what I’m talking about but may hopefully help you imagine what I’m remembering.
This bra, this bustier, and this dress show what I mean about there being light-colored sections formed by bold lines across them. However, the lines would be much more random, like these lines. The lines would go all the way across/around the piece and not just be in clusters or in certain areas of the item of clothing.
A very helpful person in TwoXChromosomes suggested terms like contrast piping or contrast seam, and lattice or mesh lattice that I might look up combined with “asymmetrical”. I’ve done that and it’s helped me a lot because it helped me find the examples I’m showing you, but I’m still not seeing exactly what I’m remembering (the mesh lattice but with the random style of lines).
I’ve googled asymmetrical mesh lattice and random mesh lattice clothing, but the lines I’m seeing are regular and patterned (stripes or grids or other repeated or symmetrical patterns).
Here’s an example of fabric from looking up contrast seam, but again, what I’m thinking of would have the random lines like this.
Note: The clothing piece itself is not asymmetrical (meaning the hem, etc., isn’t asymmetrical at all). It’s only the strong lines/bands of color that are asymmetrical/random in the directions the lines go.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give, and if you know anywhere else I should ask, please let me know. Thanks! Happy New Year! : )
