Can't use patterns? Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

I’ve noticed that a lot of people say they can’t use patterns or they don’t get them.

My question is what exactly do you find difficult about them? Is it the process? The instructions? The massive bits of paper? What patterns have you tried and how experienced (at sewing) are you? Is it just sewing patterns that you have difficulty with or other patterns (eg knitting, crochet, recipes etc) too?

What could be done to make patterns easier for you to use?

The reason I’m asking is because I’m helping a friend with some beginner patterns. Thanks for your input 🙂
