I am an almost 38 year old woman, for context. I have an issue with store-bought pants in that they are always too big in the seat/thighs if they fit in the waist.
My sewing skills are dismal and my patience is worse. I would LOVE to find a pattern for pants that are pull-on elastic waist, but look like normal dress pants that I could wear to the office or to get-togethers, etc.
I have a bit of a tummy and my hips are “high” I guess you would say. My hips are about 35-36 inches and the place where I would wear the waist is about 29-30 inches. (this is a bit lower than my “natural” waist). I wear a size 2 to 4 in store-bought USA pants. I’m lucky in the sense that my hips are so much bigger than my waist so that I know it’s totally possible to make pull-on pants that have little to no gathering at the elastic waist band. (or am I wrong and I absolutely must have a zipper?)
I have an idea in my head of what I’m looking for – a pattern that can be used for woven fabrics that have some (but not tons of) stretch. And a wide, flat, elastic waist that is sewn on, not just the top of the pant folded over. Though I suppose I could figure out how to modify a pattern to make a sewn-on waist.
I’ve used Burda patterns in the past and they fit WAY better than McCalls or any of the other big patterns. I still needed alterations for my skinny thighs and flat butt so I’m prepared for that, but I would love to start with a Burda or similar pattern.
I hope my explanations give you an idea of what I’m looking for and I would really appreciate any suggestions! Thank you!
