Buying wife sewing machine Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

Wife has always wanted to learn to sew and has hinted it many times, but has never owned a sewing machine. So I decided it would be a good thing to get her for christmas along with other gifts. My question is, what else should I get her to start out with as a first time, what accessories should I get on top of the machine?
