Hi folks, I decided to make my own boyfriend-style tailored blouses. I am using Burda 7136 (view A). I made a muslin first with lopped-off sleeves, and I am not happy with the fit.
According to the pattern, I should go with bust size alone (with bra of course) for the size – 39 inches would leave me in a size 44, but all of my other body measurements puts me in a 40 or 42. Since my overbust measurement is 37, and size 42 is a 37.74 inch bust, figured I would go with that and add fullness if I needed it later after trying it once according to pattern.
Here is the album of images of the muslin with front, back, yoke, and shortened sleeves.
I think I have the right shoulder width, and bust size is actually right – except for a bit of looseness between shoulder and breast.
However, I feel like everything else is too loose: sleeves are too large around, way too much extra material in the back, a bit too much at the sides below the bust down to the hem.
Here’s what I think I will do:
take an inch from the centre back of the blouse (from the top of the darts down, so basically angle the back fold.
Take in 3/8 of an inch or so on each side seam below the armscythe.
As I am happy with the size of the arm opening and its angle, I will taper in the side seams of the sleeve to slim it down.
Do you have any suggestions or critiques?? Thank you!!
