Book can get damaged over time. The most common factor causing the damage is the binding. It becomes loose so that the corners start to separate. When it happens to your book, you have to take action directly. You have to try to repair it by rebinding it. It will be able to help you extend the life of your favorite book.

The first thing you have to do is to make sure that there is no loose page so that you can bind the book in proper position. Turn the book against hard surface using a binding flush. Let those pages fall to the spine and press the pages against the spine firmly.

Then, you need to check the space between the gutter and the printed words. Catch all pages by drilling the holes. Make sure that you are drilling through the right margins so that the book can be easily opened. Then, place the holes all along the spine close to the first binding indentation. For larger book, you can drill four holes and for small book, simply drill three holes.

Before drilling, put the book on a board and drill it slowly by using a small gauge drill bit. While drilling, hold the drill steadily so that it can drill the book at the right angle. When the drill has succeeded making holes though the pages, you will feel the bit hitting the board. In addition, you also have to keep the stationary of the book with you while you are drilling.

The next thing you have to do is to bind the book. For most durable and strongest binding, you can use linen thread. Use the thread with the length of three times longer than the length of your book. Put that thread through a needle which is smaller than the size of the drill.

The last thing of binding step is to sew the holes you have drilled and knot the thread to make it stronger. Then, push the thread to the nest holes. Keep on sewing till the last holes. While sewing, you have to make sure that you keep the thread taut.
