Altering linen pants, newbie questions Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

[ad_1]

Beginner sewer here, I’m looking to alter some linen pants (leg width is wayyyyyy too wide and length is about 1″ too long). I’m noticing there is more fabric on the back leg panel compared to the front leg panel – I’m assuming this is normal (for sitting, right?). I’m also assuming I should begin by marking and pinning the leg width to what I’d like on both the left and right sides of the legs (starting mid-thigh), trying it on, stitch, then cut. My primary question is should I take off equal amounts of material from the front and back panels to keep more fabric on the back leg? Please let me know if that sounds confusing and any guidance is appreciated 🙂
