Help New to machine, auto threader is bending the needl Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

Just got a machine last night and was so excited to start. I read thru all manuals and guides that came with it and I’m 90% sure I’m putting the thread in the threader correctly. But when you turn the lever to thread it the little claws grab the needle and just won’t let go even though it’s threaded and the lever has been reset. I have to release the claws with me fingers but the grip is so strong that it bends the needle. I tried sewing (didn’t realize the needle had bent) and all was well for a few stitches then the needle snapped and I spent my night removing all the housing and checking the feed dog for needle pieces instead of sewing. I only can use the machine in the night anyway as I have curious toddlers.
