Advice on sewing sequins? Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

We’re throwing a bachelorette party for my friend and the theme is “under the sequins.” Mermaids meet sequins meets booze. I want to make my own sequin dress and would really love to make the bride to be a sequin mermaid tail/blanket, but I’m not sure where to start! I’ve heard that sequins are hard to sew on a machine and if that’s the case I don’t want to handsew a Bunch of projects.

Can I get a special needle to use on a machine? And if so do I need a heavy duty thread? Any advice is welcome!
