Help with my prom dress [Alterations] Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

 I really wanted a cute fifties inspired prom dress this year. I'm a beginner when it comes to dresses...and all of my previous projects have been ridiculously simple. I decided that a good idea might be getting a very plain "base" dress and then embellishing. I thought starting from scratch was overestimating myself a bit and biting off more than I could chew...plus Google says that traditionally "formal" fabrics like chiffon are evil to work with. I love the dress I found-great color and I like the style!!

However, the material is cotton…and I don’t think it’s very formal. I’ve seen lots of nice dresses on Etsy that I like that are this style, but they are way out of my budget.

I was thinking about playing with the length and the straps, or possibly adding an overlay. I have plenty of time…four months!!
