My 2 year old grandson wanted a doll for Christmas. Luckily, my daughter is okay with that. I wanted to get him some things to go with the doll but guess what? They don’t make boyish things for dolls, not anything in gender neutral colors, nothing but pink. I searched online, in stores… Nothing.
So I found a little wooden doll bed on Craigslist that needed some help and made a mattress, a fitted sheet and a little pillow for it. I also made a diaper bag and some diapers. The doll is 20″ so I didn’t bother making clothing, actual newborn clothes fit it.
Also, I always see you guys and your new Brother machines… I have an old Viking Husqvarna Heavy Duty from the 60s. it can sew through layers of denim without batting an eyelash and Ive had it since I was 16. It has never broken down.
Doll bed as it came. The lady I bought it from said she was 55, got it when she was 6 and it was already old. I just sanded it down and painted it white again.
I cut a piece of foam for a mattress, covered it and then made a fitted sheet of flanne and a matching pillow. I wanted to make a bumper for it but the sides are so low with the mattress in it that the bumper would be as tall as the sides or just a couple inches high so I skipped it. I do have a lot of scrap fabric so I will probably make little quilt later.
I also made a diaper bag and a little set of diapers.
All of these things were either free patterns online or just whipping it out.
