Help! I bought a Brother JX1710 as a gift… need advice. Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

Hello. I bought this machine for a friend who is interested in sewing but does not currently sew nor does she have a sewing machine. I’m hoping to give it to her for Christmas.

Is the Brother JX1710 a good model? I’ve heard the Brother is a good make but I’m unsure about the model. I didn’t want to spend too too much money which is why I chose it, but I’m concerned that it might be too small and maybe I should return and get the bigger one. Has anybody ever had any trouble in the past with a machine being too small to use comfortably? Would this be an ideal size for making dresses? The specs on the website are 39.2 x 14.6 x 30.8 (in centimetres).

Maybe I’m just paranoid but I’m starting to fear that maybe this lower end model is just for customers who want to “give sewing a whirl,” so to speak, but without any actual long-term merit as a machine that you approach and work at for long hours with glee for the rest of your life kind of thing. Then again, it could be the case that hey, “any good sewer can make magic on any size machine” sorta thing in which case I’m overthinking this. I really know little about sewing.

Anyway, thanks for any response you guys may have to inform my decision. I appreciate anything this community has for me.
