Alright I know next to nothing about sewing, but my significant other is getting very invested in sewing to make garments. To that end I wanted to enlist some help from people that know more than me.
We’re only looking at these machines because the dealer has a sale going presently until the end of December. I want to make sure she has a high quality machine so she can enjoy it and to take a lot of the hassle out of sewing and can enjoy it as much as possible.
We’re currently comparing:
Quilt Expression 4.2 – http://www.pfaff.com/en-US/Machines/quilt-expression-4-2
Performance 5.0 – http://www.pfaff.com/en-US/Machines/performance-5-0
And the Creative 3.0 – http://www.pfaff.com/en-US/Machines/creative-3-0
We’re sticking with Pfaff because of their IDT system. All of these have electronic thread tension, bobbin thread sensor, and automatic tie off, and basically a lot of other features that can probably make life incredibly easy for her.
I’ve asked her to look at the Creative in case she ever grows in to wanting to do embroidery, but she doesn’t think she will. The price difference between the Expression and the Performance is pretty negligible so I’m leaning toward the Performance. But, again, my knowledge is incredibly thin on this topic.
I want her to feel free to take her measurements or my measurements and just come up with an idea, run it through the tailoring software, and go create it without her ever thinking “ugh if only that machine just did X & Y.” Or for her to finally see a design that has embroidery – like perhaps for a purse or for a dress – and suddenly feel let down because her fantastic sewing machine is just a sewing machine.
Any help and/or guidance you can provide would be great.
