Wedding Dress alteration guidance Sewing Machines Parts and Sales in Los Angeles

My brother is getting married next July, and I have offered to do the wedding dress alterations for his bride-to-be. Some background about me: I am a theater costumer, and have draped, patterned, altered, etc… but I’ve never done a wedding dress. Is there a website or book that might send me down the right path? I want to do it properly, but I understand that wedding dresses are not your average garment… She’s bringing the dress to the family Christmas gathering- we’ll do a first fitting there, and probably a 2nd fitting in March when we go to visit them during Spring break.
