Have you been thinking about the best Halloween costume for your child? Well, there sure are a lot of possible options, but one of the best choices for many parents a simple Mickey Mouse costume complete with Mickey Mouse ears. This is perhaps one of the most popular Halloween costume for toddlers and even older children. Cute Mickey costumes can be easily purchased in most stores, but you can make the Mouse ears hat yourself.

There are diverse ways to make a Mickey Mouse ears hat but what follows is probably the simplest method. Here are the easy-to-follow steps in making the hat that will complement your child’s Mickey Mouse costume.

First, prepare the necessary materials — a black construction paper, an old hat, a glue gun, felt fabric, a sewing machine and a black thread.

When everything is set, measure the circumference of your child’s head using a tape measure. Then, draw a semi-circle that measures half of your child’s head circumference on a black felt fabric. To illustrate, if your child’s head circumference is 22 inches, draw a semi-circle that measures 11 inches across. Once you are finished drawing, cut it out from the felt fabric. Repeat these steps and make another semi-circle.

Glue together the two semi-circles which you cut out from the fabric. Make sure that both sides of the felt fabric are facing each other and then sew their outer edges. Once you have sewn 2 inches of the fabric, leave ½ inch space for the ears. Do the same on the other side.

After sewing, turn the hat inside-out and check if you have a perfect circle. Also, see if the felt fabric is facing upward. At this point, you can also try the hat on your child to see if it actually fits him or if it still needs some adjustments.

For the Mouse ears, cut out two circles measuring five inches in diameter from construction paper. Ensure that they are sturdy enough to stand up as ears. Lay the two circles on the leftover felt fabric and cut the fabric using the paper circles as guide. Then, stick the paper on the cut-out felt fabric using a glue gun and allow it to dry.

Attach the Mouse ears to the opening in the hat. Sew the remaining parts around the ears and you are finished! You now have the Mickey Mouse ears hat that will match your child’s Mickey Mouse costume.
